Take a look at my ruthex inserts. For M3 inserts i have to create a 4mm hole. Also the ruthex inserts are asymetrical. So you can put the smaller side into the hole, then put the solderiron into the larger side and melt them into the hole. I think yours are pretty hard to align right into hole
