WebFeb 14, 2004 · A4 (B5 Platform) Discussion - Whats the best way th descreen the MAF on a 2.8 - I was looking at the screen on my MAF and it appears to be molded into the plastic. WebDec 23, 2009 · To get an accurate reading from the MAF the air must be straightened before it enters the MAF. Remove the screen and you introduce turbulence, which will upset the readings of the MAF. Which will in turn send false readings to the ECU. From what ive heard speed density is a pain in the ass to deal with.

Just wanted to throw in my 2 cents. The screen is to get rid of turbulence and equalize airflow at the MAF so it gets a good read.
